Well, here I am playing the game. I meant to acquire Crisis Core, but that's not available on the PS2 my parents bought me (jumble sale, cost about £5), so I got this instead. Should be a nice enough game, I thought. I know I like Vincent. (Don't get jealous, Mankoi!)
It describes itself as a first person shooter. I do the funny training level and get KOed about seven or eight times. Eek. I hesitantly push play and wind up in the game.
Before I continue, I should tell you: I've watched walkthroughs of the ENTIRE Compilation of Final Fantasy VII at least once and practically have AC memorised, and I own and have played VII itself one and a half times so far. So I know the basics. ... Just not about how to survive this game's fighting system.
I got as far as the sniper mission without too many issues. I find myself in a plaza with - according to the internet - about 15 snipers around it. I can take out #1 no problems, front and centre. I can usually find and destroy #2 easily, then maybe find a #3 if I'm lucky. Then Vince gets KOed. And YES, I am using a Phoenix Down. It's usually sucked up when I'm taking out #2.
So, what in all hell do I do? I've tried using random fire, standing still and using the rifle, couldn't find any cover... I did read there's a shop somewhere or something. Where is it? A map would be ideal for this, elsewise just tell me? Also, I believe at the end of the level you can find a kid and save him from two soldiers - and thus segway into the next level. Can I go straight to that, and if so, how?
Heeeeellllllp...

£5 for a PS2 is great if it works, even from a jumble.
I recommend Crisis Core big time, though. Not a huge fan of Compilation (FFVII is one of the most overrated games in history I think), but I loved Crisis Core. You should try and get your hands on it.
Can't help, except that I hear Dirge of Cerberus is really bad and you should probably just look up the important story bits and get on to some other PS2 games.
It MIGHT not be your fault

Problem is I don't have a PSP to play Crisis Core on.
I'll go to more jumble/car boot sales!
And I am indeed getting on with other things - X-2 specifically - but I am enjoying playing DoC, snipers notwithstanding. I'd just prefer to be rid of them!
Thanks for the reply.
EDIT: I got past the snipers. All well and fun, but now I must control Cait Sith. The cat...
