I think what I meant was some form of URU Live now, with integration of all of the existing user created ages soon after. There has been a lot of work in the past two years by the community, on Open Source.

Personally, I think Cyan wouldn't have agreed to that. I say we either get open-source or open-source with Cyan playing some small part in addition. Full blown Uru Live is no longer an option IMHO and Cyan wouldn't cut open-source for a limited version of it.

I could care less about the open source stuff. Just doesn't interest me. I'm kind of hoping they get a new publisher who hires them to MAKE A NEW GAME.
Uru is dead. It was a fatally flawed game to begin with, its almost 7 years old and amount of people who have/care about a 7 year old game is slim and getting slimmer. And no matter how many iterations it goes through, you're just building on a structurally old and weak skeleton.

Just make D'ni in Real-Time like they originally wanted to. I want to freaking explore the city and cavern without the limitations of clunky multiplayer components holding back performance and visuals. If they've LEARNED from the mistakes of Uru and can make a new multiplayer game that WORKS, then more power to them. But its time to scrap the re-use of Uru.

I agree with you - (and of course I disagree with the person who later proclaimed URU dead) - this would be a terrific scenario. And, as far as I'm concerned, that first post in the DRC forums OFFICIALLY began URU again - and you can consider me glued to my screen from now on! I've been packed and ready to go for AGES! Mass migration, anyone?!!?

The evidence seems to support that it will just be Open Source. The last note from Chogon said nothing had changed from Cyan's original intentions. The IC nature of the DRC posts do not necessarily indicate continuation of an official storyline. If you believe the explorers who claim to have spoken with Kodama and Sutherland, Kodama said that he sees himself as just another explorer now and Marie indicated that the DRC have not found a new source of funding.

To me the recent IC activity makes me suspect that:

• Cyan is ready to release open source Uru.
  
• Cyan has enlisted a few explorers to test a shard.
  
• The DRC are being used to introduce the new situation and have it make sense IC - as in the DRC are aware that there are explorers in the cavern again, but the DRC will not be around in any official capacity.

I suspect that when some official announcement is made by Cyan, we will be able to access the cavern very much like UU on a Cyan operated shard, and we'll get the green light to begin working on open source Uru via our own shards. I doubt they will have official storyline, at least not anything substantial for the foreseeable future. I don't expect that we'll get any new content from Cyan either - just the content that we the explorers bring to Open Source Uru.

What's this? Did the DRC visit one of the shards? Did they talk to people over Cyan Chat?

It's all in the threads on the DRC forums. People have claimed to have spoken with Kodama and Marie in the cavern. There have been several OOC explanations offered on different forums about whether the claims are true or false, but until Cyan posts something official we won't know for sure. Read the posts and make up your own mind.

I'll sum it up:
OOC - some believe that certain explorers have access to something the rest of us don't. Others believe they are making it up. Some are having fun with it regardless of what it means and others are upset about it.
IC - Several explorers say they have actually met with Marie Sutherland and Kodama in the city on a couple of occasions over the weekend. Kodama said the DRC have moved on to new careers. Marie said they have no new funding.

Yes, UU would be fine with me...followed by open source Uru shards!

I don't know about anyone else, but for me, Uru is Uru. I want to be able to play online with other people. If we don't get all of the Cyan Ages immediately...I can live with that. Having Ae'Gura and Relto would be enough for me as long as I get to be there.

Player-made content, whether integrated immediately or later, will only make it better. My question is, how will it be explained IC? Will it be explained as Explorers crawling about the ruins and finding Books the DRC missed/hasn't found (which would be exactly what I would be doing), or will it be actual Writing done by Explorers?


EDIT: Also, I just realized (from glancing at my signature), that it is just over 2 years since MOUL went down. We *are* a patient and determined bunch, aren't we? If WoW or some other such thing went down for two years with little hope given by the creators that it would return, do you seriously think that anyone would still care about it?

Well, it seems it is official now. Marie has posted in this thread at the DRC forums that she spoke with explorers. This confirms that those who claimed they spoke with her were not making it up.

hmm, so it sounds to me like some folks may be doing some testing, unless this happened on someone's shard. i would find it odd that official cyan characters would show up on an unsanctioned shard though. anyway, nice to see something happening. it's exciting. and yeah i know there are some people who think uru should just die already, but there are many of us who cannot wait for the cavern to reopen even if it's UU style and maybe with fan ages. i'm one of those.
