A post on the Myst movie production journal suggest that the Mysteria Film Group has recently made headway in their effort to make a movie adaptation of Myst: The Book of Ti'ana. Apparently numerous big production companies have shown their interest and Mysteria Film Group together with Cyan Worlds have decided on which one to go with.

Quote

A conference call took place yesterday afternoon between Mysteria Film Group, headquartered in Granger, Indiana and Cyan Worlds, headquartered in Mead, Washington. (One of these companies has a much nicer building than the other - can you guess which?) The nature of the call: attaining consensous on what Los Angeles motion picture production company to partner with in order to bring Myst: The Book of Ti’ana to life as an epic, big-budgeted major motion picture.

UO/MO would like to congratulate the Mysteria Film Group on their many years of work and dedication finally being one big step closer to fruition.

Update: Although the blog post at first only showed a visitor pass from Warner Bros., it has now been updated with a visitor pass from NBC Universal as well.

Candidates thus far are Warner Bros. Pictures and Universal Studios, but expect that list to grow.

Uhm... reading this, it's not the big news everyone thinks, at least not the way they think.

The call was to get consensus with Cyan. No actual studios were contacted yet. What happened is they decided "Ok guys, which studio?" and finally came up with "Let's go with X, but Y may work as a second choice."

Then the posted pass from Warner Brothers, implying they went to talk with them after that consensus with Cyan. Then the Universal one implying WB didn't bite immediately and is considering, and the Mysteriacs are checking all their options at this point. Or at least that's my take on it.

There is no actual attachment yet, unless they haven't posted about it.

However, studios showing interest is good news. It also means they're at the stage that it matters, where they're looking into working with someone for it. So, here's to the future news of results! :D

Nah, that scenario doesn't work with the dates; The WB pass is dated 2 December, the Universal pass the day after. The Cyan call was said to have taken place "yesterday" in a post from the 9th, meaning the call took place on 8th. I'm guessing they went around and got a few offers perhaps and after the final meeting they called Cyan and discussed which one to explore further. Which is why I think we'll see a few more studio passes (I'm betting they will be adding a new one each day just to tease us). :D

Really? Hmm. I didn't check any dates.

It still doesn't say much though, it merely means they visited, presumably to discuss (we don't even know if that much is for sure). So it's possible both studios wanted backing of Cyan considering they're the rights holder, and are stalling or something or the exclusivity doesn't work how we think (I have nothing to do with the film industry and have little grounding in that area). Or something like that.

Talks with Cyan to agree over a studio after getting competing offers (window-shopping first before you decide, I'd take it as) is probably the best one of this. But it doesn't mean any contracts or anything beyond offers and pre-pre-planning.

Yeah, not to rain on any parades, but after working at a studio for about six months, and knowing some people at both of those studios, I find the title of this thread very misleading. It's awesome that meetings have been taken about the Myst movie, but at the end of the day those executives probably took 30-40 meetings that day alone. Not to downplay the work of the guys, it's awesome and it's an honor to even get a meeting, but I think to say a studio is "attached" is a huge overstatement. As far as production goes, don't start celebrating until the day it's released.

As a WB employee, I can only pray that we produce the movie. I know people in Consumer products and might be able to get cool swag. Plus, I know the President of Distribution and can grovel at his feet for tickets to the premiere. :)

It will be a great day when schools have all the money they need and the army has to hold a bake sale to buy a tank.

Plus wouldn't that be good bragging rights if you work at the studio who produce the movie, ryansdavis? :P
