Oh well... when do we get "MagiQuest Obsession"?

Wouldn't go that far, but as long as this place exists (probably until some day of Dec 2012 tongue.gif), I guess we'll continue to support (in some way or the other) Cyan's non-Myst/URU projects. smile.gif

You guys worry too much, plasma's a good engine.. I think we can agree on that. And hate to break it to you guys, but I'm sure MANY of the people who will be playing, haven't played Uru and will be impressed by the detail. They're getting paid to make it so I'm sure it'll be good, you gotta put a little faith in Cyan's abilities to make a good game, and I'm sure it'll be alot easier to keep it running considering they're doing alot more than pulling levers and pushing buttons (no offense).

Any idea if it's possible to extract that screenshot from the website's files so that we can see it better?

Yes, I ended up surrendering to this "NaNoWriMo" thing (and winning it, BTW!)... Here is my page

Unless both my computer, and dad's computer, as well as firefox and google chrome are all totally screwed up, the only reason I can think of for not seeing any screenshot or even a text link to one, is that no such screenshot has been included on this thread. It's like you guys are just continuing a discussion you were having on a different thread, but on this thread instead. I'm much too bored and lazy to go searching for a missing screenshot, so, uhm, can someone please either put up the screenshot, or a link to the thread you guys were talking about it on? *yaaawn* I'm also incredibly tired. But I'm not allowed to sleep, I have to go work. sad.gif

Come on, either put up or shut up... the screenshot, and the talking about it. Seriously.

*cough cough cough* dangit, I can't shake this stupid sickness! With the Arrrgh, and the *hack cough gag*!! So, uhm... anyway, about this thing called MagiQuest, or whatever... my question is, so what? There are so many magic MMORPGs out there, what's gonna make this stand out? Yah, it's Cyan, and I'm totally in love with their work, but, yet another game where you throw thunderbolts at monsters, etc. etc. does not peak my interest. I love the puzzles and clues and reading and being immersed in another world that was provided to me by the Myst series. Nothing can outshine that, IMHO. Not even games where stuff blows up and people get killed in ever more amazingly graphical and cool ways. I could go play The Matrix Online for the thrills if that was what I really wanted. But it isn't. I really want amazingly beautiful landscapes, puzzles that intrigue me and make me think, clues that are elegant and fascinating, not just silly stupid things like I've seen in so many other games.

I want Cyan to make money, don't get me wrong, I want them to be abundantly successful, I just have no interest in the run of the mill stuff that I see everywhere else. I thought Cyan stood out, like a beacon, going against the norm and coming out on top with far more amazing work than anyone else. Sure, Uru tanked, TWICE, but that doesn't mean the ideas behind it were wrong, just the application. I say let them do what they have to for now, to survive, and hope they get back on the horse and revive the D'ni world I've come to love some time down the road.

If Cyan never does anything with the D'ni world again, and just abandons it, they will have abandoned me too, and I'll be sad, and lament the deep loss for a long time to come.

Krepta, we are not the designated aurdience for the game. This game, which indeed may be everything Myst is not, is mostly for the MagiQuest fans out there- bet a lot of kids.

They still want to bring Uru back. This is the only way to do it. If they don't go on MagiQuest, we could say goodbye to any chance to see Uru or Myst or any other product.

So it might appear, but a lot of the references I'm seeing indicate that the live MagiQuest sites have proven very popular with entire families. And there's discussion of more advanced quests for more mature players.

OH MY GOD IT'S NOT MYST! NOOOOOOOO~!

Man, one screenshot and some details gleaned from the real world counterpart and people are already proclaiming gloom and doom? Did everyone leave their "Cautious Optimism" shirts back in MOUL?

I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out... there's a few other casual online wizarding type games (Wizard 101 is the one that springs to mind, since I keep seeing commercials for that), and they seem to garner quite a bit of attention from the kids market. From what I can tell, MagiQuest makes a far greater effort to appeal to the older crowds as well as the little ones (I find myself wishing I could make my way to one of the real-world locations and check it out) so maybe Cyan and the MQ people can capture a whole new portion of the market with this concept.

Of course, I'm still hoping they'll release Hex Isle on Steam or something, so I can finally play it. I wasn't about to go through the ridiculously sketchy looking third-party that Fanista seemed to be, and even that seems to have shut down now. Of course, for all I know, Fanista was a very well put together group of professionals... they just... certainly didn't present themselves that way.

Ah, forgive me, I hadn't noticed I was on the second page of the thread, for some reason... Man, I'm much too tired to think straight, thanks for being so kind to this tired fool. From the screenshot I'm thinking Uru explorer found a Magical new Age to explore. Hope you get to pick things up and move things around in a realistic way, unlike Uru. It looks pretty neat, and I want to check it out sometime. I'm happy as long as Cyan isn't going to abandon the Myst/D'ni world forever.

Ah, I see, I finally understand MagiQuest, after digging around in it. Now I want Cyan to do that kind of thing with a Myst/Uru theme, only no silly wands. I don't like that, a plastic wand with a little IR sensor on the tip... mmm... that annoys me. I'd much rather have a KI, that records my progress as I find Markers on Marker Missions and GZ Calibration missions, upgrades it's security level to let me into new areas, etc. etc. Oh, I'm so excited! I wish Cyan all the luck in the world making lots of money to do the MQ online system, and then, they can go make a D'ni Theme Park!!! AAAAHHHH!!!!!

I think it's obvious why...and yes it's not close to Myst or URU it's just sad and didtastful...maybe some will buy and that will be great if they can get the money to do something good with it like make a mmo like URU it was a great idea but gread got in the way I think....I hope this time around it works out if all gose well.

As far as I know somebody already bought and is putting money in it. That is why they are doing it.

I am going to start beating you until candy comes out! The stick will have an infrared sensor on the tip that will allow me to record the number of beatings you have received from me. Once it crosses a certain barrier, I will receive additional candy.

Well, at least you will be having fun, right? If you warn me about a day before you come out to beat me up with your magic plastic wand, I'll make sure and have plenty of candy to pelt you with. smile.gif

I didn't say anything about using a plastic wand, I was thinking more of a good old fashioned whoopin' stick.

I'm on board for a candy fight, though. A friend of mine used to have a theory that there was a lot of joy to be had from pelting people with candy. If you throw a piece of candy at someone hard enough to hurt a little, they can't really complain because, "ooh, piece of candy!" will kick in and they'll forget that this piece of candy was just a missile.

Alright, so I apologize in advance for being so positive, and I hate to break up this rainy day, but...

That screenshot is awesome. I mean I don't have the time nor the money to play online games anymore-- I still wonder how I'm going to be able to play Uru when it comes out again-- but I'm so excited to see something new from Cyan that I don't really care. The texturing is cool and it's actually really funny to see an Uru avatar with a magic hat on. laugh.gif I was so traumatized by watching and playing through Uru's locales SO MANY TIMES that seeing something new is practically a sexual experience.
