Reteltee: Hi everyone And Shorah
I'm going to wait a couple more minutes, looks like we still have a few folks on their way. As a precautionary warning; my connection has been spotty at times today; if I suddenly disappear, I will endeavor to jump right back in asap.
...
Right, well, I've been told Kirel is full so we may as well begin.
If you would please do me a favor, and hold all questions to the end.
The subject of my talk today is the Guilds; research which I have been conducting, independently, and without the DRC's official sanction. I have brought my findings to the DRC, and they would neither confirm or deny my conclusions. I specifically asked if it would be acceptable to share my findings with the Explorer community; the response given was "Just so long as they know the DRC does not necessarily endorse your findings".
I had originally intended to postpone this talk until after the current flurry of activity in the Cavern had died down some; however, with cate and Dr. Kodama departing the DRC so suddenly, I felt it would be important to share these findings as soon as possible. Now, when the DRC first approached me about becoming the Guild Adviser, I was quizzed, somewhat intensively, on my knowledge of the Guilds
I was questioned as to which sources I had consulted, and what conclusions I had drawn from them. At the time, I thought I had utilized every source, and discovered as much as could have been known about the D'ni Guilds.
It turns out, I was incorrect.
There is a wealth of knowledge about the Guilds which I had, heretofore, been completely unaware.
I will precursor this, however by saying that the information which I have uncovered about the Guilds, is not from an era of the D'ni civilization about which we have significant information. However, it is no less vital that we, as Explorers, consider well this information, and what it may portend for our futures...and that of this Cavern.
So, with that preamble out of the way, here goes....
First, Some important dates
Aitrus, father of Ghen, grandfather of Atrus, was born approximately 9313 years after the D'ni Exodus to Earth. This makes the approximate year of the abdication of Kerath, in favour of the Council, 6977. My research, is from the period of time from approx 7104 to 7196.The reason I give these dates is so we have an appropriate framework to help us understand the history of the Guilds. We will see, that there are significant parallels for us, today. Now, remembering the relatively long average lifespan of the D'ni, 7104 was relatively soon after the Council began ruling instead of the King; one, maybe two generations.
Of course, that's human generations, of about 30 years, The D'ni didn't necessarily measure time in such ways, but I want to give the clear picture; the rulership of the Guilds at this time was young, fresh, and in many cases, uncertain.
Now it seems, that when the Council was young, there came a threat to the Cavern. What this threat was, I cannot for sure ascertain...the records I've been using are both unclear, and at times incomplete. It could have been problems with Ages; it could have been seismic activity in the Cavern, or it could have been an invasion.
I do not honestly know.
However, the Guilds were tasked with discovering a solution, that much is clear. Unfortunately, it seems they were not yet ready for such things took nearly forty years for the Council to even agree on a method of discovery!
In that forty years time, many people died, and it seemed, for a time, that Kerath's wisdom was in fact folly, but there was redemption on the horizon. An elder Guildsman, whose name is lost to history, hit upon an idea...one which was to change the face of the Guild Council forever.
I will insert a caveat here; I believe the reason that this Guildsmans name is lost to history, is because there wasn't really a single man who came up with this idea. However, the Council needed, in telling this story, a lightning rod to draw both accolade and criticism. So they invented a 'nameless Guildsman' to be just that; In any case, the idea was this; ask the people. What we might call, a referendum.
Now please, understand how revolutionary this was at this time. The Council, like the King before them, had ruled largely independently of the people. Not that the common D'ni were completely uninvolved, but they had never had a real voice...until this time. The Council (the the guise of this elder Guildsman) had reasoned that since it was the people who were suffering, it should be the people who determined how to end the crisis. So, the Council brought in the people, from the commoners and lay-people, to the highest ranking Guildsman, and some form (the record is not clear) of vote took place. And...well, unfortunately, that's about all I've been able to ascertain about the crisis itself. By the time the records begin to become coherent again, it's nearly 50 years later, and the crisis had apparently been resolved. However, I do have some conclusion, which I will now share.
First, this shows that there was a time, though it was long, long ago, when the Guilds knew how to listen to the people...even (perhaps, though it isn't clear, especially) those who were NOT members of a Guild. It also shows that the Guilds recognized this need very early on in their existence, though it took a mounting crisis to reveal it to them. Further, it illustrates just how far from the original intent the D'ni Guilds had fallen, at the time of the Fall.
Which brings me to my final conclusion, and then I'll start taking questions. We Explorers, should not fear making the Guilds strong, and enduring. We should know that it IS possible for us to have a robust Guild system, and still be attuned to the needs and desires of non-Guild members. And we should know that it has been done before, by men no greater than we ourselves are.
Thank your for your patience and attention friends; I now open the floor to questions, through my dear friends the moderators.

(11/04 14:08:02) T.S: great job,reteltee
(11/04 14:08:10) Wiz thanks Reteltee for the research and sharing this
(11/04 14:08:12) DocOlanA: First, thank you very much. I'm assuming that you have these sources from the DRC, sources that as of yet are unavailable to us. Can you tell us as much as possible about these sources? Were they historical journals, commentaries, speeches, what?
(11/04 14:08:15) Trevor1013: Great job reteltee!
(11/04 14:08:26) T.S cheers
(11/04 14:08:31) Nonphat: Very nice presentation!
(11/04 14:08:35) Nonphat claps his hands
(11/04 14:08:54) Venenum_Absum: yes very nice...
(11/04 14:09:00) Reteltee: Much of what I have learned is avaiblable to the public; mostly, I drew inferences from the historigraphy which is curently available. Much of historical research is reading between the lines wink.gif
(11/04 14:09:06) [Moderator]moirajane: (Goloth you are next)
(11/04 14:09:08) Reteltee: (Thank you everyone for your kind words)
(11/04 14:09:11) Reteltee: xt?
(11/04 14:09:20) Reteltee: *Next?
(11/04 14:09:25) Goloth: Reteltee,
(11/04 14:09:27) Venenum_Absum: Reiko I did the traditional cooking method of 40 30 and 20
(11/04 14:09:27) [Moderator]moirajane: Golath has the next question
(11/04 14:09:54) [Moderator]moirajane: Goloth?
(11/04 14:10:05) Goloth: The DRC seems to be disappearing and even though there are still members, with the DRC losing it's funding, it looks like the . . .
(11/04 14:10:19) Goloth: DRC will not be funtioning . . .
(11/04 14:10:21) T.S looks around for a bit
(11/04 14:10:37) Goloth: Will the Guilds become the new leaders?
(11/04 14:10:46) Goloth: Or will there be another leader of sorts?
(11/04 14:11:20) Reteltee: My hope is that the Guilds will be able to step in and fill the gap
(11/04 14:11:48) Reteltee: Next?
(11/04 14:11:50) [Moderator]moirajane: Ireenquench has the next question
(11/04 14:11:50) Goloth: Thank you Reteltee
(11/04 14:11:55) ireenquench: Reteltee, your conclusion was very short, after what seemed a complex course of events. What are your main points about the analogy again? Voting is good or bad? Asking the public for advice is good or bad? Which measuer the COuncil took was good, which strayed?
(11/04 14:12:48) Reteltee: Vting (provided it means listening to the will of the people, *ahem*)=good. Asking for advice=VERY good
(11/04 14:13:47) Reteltee: As far as the Council measure, could you be more specific?
(11/04 14:14:17) ireenquench: You mentioned they had strayed from the original guild concept, and that sounded "bad"
(11/04 14:14:25) Reteltee: Oh, yes
(11/04 14:14:40) Reteltee: At the time of the Fall, the D'ni Guilds were merely a shadow of what they were intended to be
(11/04 14:15:24) Reteltee: They wre bastions of the rich, elite, and powerful D'ni, as opposed to the repositories of the talented, driven, hard-working D'ni who had made the Empire what it was in the first place
(11/04 14:16:20) Reteltee: The Guilds (and I say this with no small measure of disgust) had usurped the D;ni citezenry's rightful place. As long as I draw breath, I will work to ensure that NEVER happens to the Explorers
(11/04 14:16:40) Pituka claps her hands
(11/04 14:16:52) Kotter claps his hands
(11/04 14:16:55) Nonphat cheers
(11/04 14:16:57) T.S nods his head
(11/04 14:16:59) Tofer claps his hands
(11/04 14:17:01) William Clark: calp
(11/04 14:17:03) Hannauru nods her head
(11/04 14:17:03) William Clark claps his hands
(11/04 14:17:04) Katelin0 cheers
(11/04 14:17:09) Calla Ayden cheers
(11/04 14:17:12) Dimitrios is amazed!
(11/04 14:17:16) Josue claps his hands
(11/04 14:17:21) 33mike nods my head
(11/04 14:17:23) Reteltee: There were, no doubt, good men and women in the Guilds at the time of the Fall. But Veovis was NOT the exception of a Guildsman at the time of the Fall; Aitrus was
(11/04 14:17:24) janaba claps her hands
(11/04 14:17:44) Ti'chelle claps her hands
(11/04 14:17:50) Reteltee: Sorry, slight tangent, but does that answer ireen?
(11/04 14:18:48) Reteltee: Next?
(11/04 14:18:50) [Moderator]moirajane: Valdez has the next question
(11/04 14:18:51) ireenquench: I understand you meant the Coucil strayed in a good way
(11/04 14:18:55) My'key: Aitrus was not alone...
(11/04 14:18:55) Valdez: Was "The Five" also ruling with the coucil at the time, or were they formulated at a later date? And that was an excellent spech I will have to add.
(11/04 14:20:44) Reteltee: Thanks Valdez; originally, the Council was NOT ruled by the F
(11/04 14:20:50) Reteltee: *Five
(11/04 14:21:08) Valdez: was that just corruptness then?
(11/04 14:21:17) Reteltee: That was a modification, as I understand it, added at a somewhat later date; I don't have the date on the top of my head
(11/04 14:22:02) Reteltee: I don't know if it was corruption per se....it certainly fragmented the ruling process more, making it (in my opinion) easier for corruption to set in
(11/04 14:22:33) Reteltee: Next?
(11/04 14:22:35) [Moderator]moirajane: Lontahv is up next
(11/04 14:22:39) Lontahv: Retetee: The Guilds need training ages to survive. The Cartographers have Minkata, the Maintainers have Gahreesen. What about the Writers and Messengers? Are there even D'ni ages that survive for that function? Or are there plans to create some ages for that use? Can the DRC/leaders in the cavern even write ages?
(11/04 14:23:14) Reteltee: Great point/question Lon...at this point, I don't know the answer sad.gif
(11/04 14:23:32) Reteltee: Next?
(11/04 14:23:35) [Moderator]moirajane: Pryftan your question please
(11/04 14:23:39) Pryftan: Reteltee, there's been a lot of discussion lately about trying to get the DRC to allow a group such as the GoW to "restore" an Age, much like they gave Teledahn to Sharper.. that way even if the DRC disappears, restoration of old D'ni Ages as well as the Writing of new Ages can continue. Can we have your support in talking to the DRC about that?
(11/04 14:24:16) Reteltee: Absolutely Pry...though, who knows if it will even be the DRC who determines that now....maybe it'll just be up to us
(11/04 14:24:29) Reteltee: Neverthelesss, what I can do, I will do, as always
(11/04 14:24:37) Pryftan: Thank you.
(11/04 14:24:41) Maurus wants to ask a question...
(11/04 14:24:42) Reteltee: My pleasure
(11/04 14:24:45) Reteltee: Next?
(11/04 14:24:51) [Moderator]moirajane: DocOlanA has a follow up question
(11/04 14:25:51) Reteltee: (an aside; I presume someone [or multiple someones] is/are chatlogging?)
(11/04 14:25:59) DocOlanA: If most of your sources were those currently available to the explorers, would you mind breaking it down for us, and tell us what parts of the existing sources you used to draw your conclusions, so that other scholars might continue with such studies?
(11/04 14:26:06) Nonphat: I am
(11/04 14:26:12) T.S: good
(11/04 14:26:15) William Clark: (I got a part of your speech and the questions so far)
(11/04 14:26:15) Reteltee: (greath, thanks)
(11/04 14:26:34) Wiz: ok
(11/04 14:26:41) Nonphat: (i've got the whole thing and i'll post it on the forums as soon as its over.)
(11/04 14:26:45) Pryftan: (I logged the whloe speech)
(11/04 14:26:56) Valdez: (as did I)
(11/04 14:27:11) [Moderator]moirajane: (If you have a question for Reteltee please PM me withthe word "Question" and I will put you in the queue. Thx)
(11/04 14:27:43) Reteltee: I would love to Doc, though it would be long and tedious...perhaps we can shleve that for a more approriate venue/time? That's an open invitation to anyone
(11/04 14:28:04) Reteltee: Boy, the lag is killing my typing today; sincere apologies everyone
(11/04 14:28:04) DocOlanA: Well, I know you're on forums. Would you be willing to post your research on one of the forums later?
(11/04 14:28:09) DocOlanA: UO, or the main forums?
(11/04 14:28:16) ireenquench: Reteltee there are no known sources about the 7000s
(11/04 14:28:29) Reteltee: I think I could do that Doc, though I've no idea how soon..just keep bugging me about it biggrin.gif
(11/04 14:28:41) DocOlanA: Don't worry, I'll bug you constantly about it smile.gif
(11/04 14:29:02) [Moderator]moirajane: Trevor 1013 has the next question
(11/04 14:29:04) T.S starts to laugh
(11/04 14:29:04) DocOlanA: Something like that would be an excellent example for the Guild of Archivists, showing how we can learn more about the D'ni by analyzing existing materials.
(11/04 14:29:08) Reteltee: Next?
(11/04 14:29:12) Trevor1013: Have you found any information in your research about how the Bahro we're involved in Guild decisions? I mean, were there laws, rules, or debates regarding them?
(11/04 14:29:21) Dakro: I beat it, I needed Jeff to help me with a small part of it though, but for the most part I got threw it pretty quick, it is an AMAZING age
(11/04 14:29:32) Dakro: Ohh yikes that was supposed to be a pm, eck, sorry Reteltee biggrin.gif
(11/04 14:29:51) Reteltee: I have been looking for such things Trevor, but to date have found nothing but a deafening silence
(11/04 14:30:00) Reteltee: (No worries DAk, I still like your hat)
(11/04 14:30:04) Trevor1013: Interesting
(11/04 14:30:13) T.S: hahaha
(11/04 14:30:15) Dakro: Indeed
(11/04 14:30:26) Reteltee: Next?
(11/04 14:30:28) [Moderator]moirajane: Ireenquench has a follow up
(11/04 14:30:28) Trevor1013: I've always been interested as to why they haven't come up in such matters
(11/04 14:30:30) Lontahv: We sould have a sign outside this room that says "please turn neighbor-Chat off before entering this room, Thank you!"
(11/04 14:30:33) Trevor1013: Thanks
(11/04 14:30:34) ireenquench: Do you have any idea who is going to teach explorers the gahrohevtee language?
(11/04 14:30:45) Dafydd Thomas: Ben jij hier ook?
(11/04 14:30:51) Reteltee: I don't ireen, though that's an excellent question
(11/04 14:31:07) Reteltee: If anyone comes across a copy of the Rehevkor...let us all know wink.gif
(11/04 14:31:20) Dafydd Thomas: Oops sorry, had to be a PM
(11/04 14:31:21) Reteltee: *wink.gif
(11/04 14:31:24) ireenquench: Whats your guess... Yeesha? Or the DRC?
(11/04 14:31:30) Valdez: ask Atrus
(11/04 14:31:44) Reteltee: Both...neither, I honestly don't know. Mebbe the Bahro
(11/04 14:31:46) Valdez: I am sure he has one
(11/04 14:32:05) Reteltee: Next?
(11/04 14:32:06) [Moderator]moirajane: Overdrive has the next question
(11/04 14:33:01) T.S looks around for a bit
(11/04 14:33:13) Trevor1013: Thank you for the speech Ret! Bye for now!
(11/04 14:33:14) [Moderator]moirajane: Is he still here?
(11/04 14:33:22) Reteltee: Thank you Trevor
(11/04 14:33:33) [Moderator]moirajane: Thend is up then
(11/04 14:33:34) Reteltee: Next?
(11/04 14:33:38) Thend: Reteltee, as Explorers will be Writing Ages eventually, where is and can we see the Garohevtee language, and the formulas for making Inks & Paper for the Books? Seems like this would be an excellent starting point in the meantime until actual Age Writing occurs. And why initiate a Guild of Writers (no offense meant towards the GoW) in the first place if these materials are essentially unknowns to the DRC (if this is the case)?
(11/04 14:33:54) Reteltee: reply Lol
(11/04 14:33:58) Reteltee: Oops
(11/04 14:34:02) Reteltee: Thend
(11/04 14:34:07) Thend starts to laugh
(11/04 14:34:10) Reteltee: As always, great points
(11/04 14:34:26) Reteltee: I'll address them one by one in order
(11/04 14:35:38) [Moderator]moirajane: (Any more questions for Reteltee? Please pm me with the WORD "question")
(11/04 14:35:40) Reteltee: I do not know of any place currently where one can find specific examples of the gahrohevtee, and I'm unsure as to the surviving existence of the Ink and Paper formulae
(11/04 14:36:44) Lontahv: Bye Reteltee. Thanks again. : )
(11/04 14:37:28) Reteltee: as to why begin a Guild of Writers now? They were one of the most important Guilds in the D'ni Empire, and I felt, when the DRC asked me for my suggestions, that they deserved recognition and a place in the Cavern now. But Writers can do more than just write Ages...in many ways, they are the soul of D;ni. Their imagination, and spirit, helped create links to some of the most beautiful worlds we have ever seen (like Er'Cana, and Ahonay)

(11/04 14:17:21) 33mike nods my head
(11/04 14:17:23) Reteltee: There were, no doubt, good men and women in the Guilds at the time of the Fall. But Veovis was NOT the exception of a Guildsman at the time of the Fall; Aitrus was

(11/04 14:38:26) Reteltee: I think the Writers can do amazing things aside from just the Art
(11/04 14:38:57) ireenquench is a bit puzzled...
(11/04 14:38:58) Reteltee: Right, I have time for one more question, anyone?
(11/04 14:39:02) [Moderator]moirajane: Maurus has the last question

Marie Sutherland appears in the City, telling explorers that she and Victor Laxman have not decided to leave yet, and that the Great Zero Stained Glass is being installed. The winners in the Great Zero stained glass contest are Master Cloak, Keith "Tweek" Lord, and Resolute Guardian. So far Tweek's design has been added to the hoods, with the other two coming in the following days.

(11/04 15:27:40) Niika: Have you spoken to Phend lately Marie?
(11/04 15:27:42) DocOlanA: That's very good to hear. And as Illuvatar said, we're behind you, Dr. Laxman, and anyone else from the DRC who are staying.
(11/04 15:27:43) Maurus: of course they're a threat, just anot an immediate one

(11/04 15:28:21) Kelm: Pm me if you want a question Que
(11/04 15:28:28) Marie Sutherland: I have no idea when or if we will find more funding, Rihm.
(11/04 15:28:33) T.S: yes marten ;-)
(11/04 15:28:55) T.S: oh
(11/04 15:28:58) TomahnaGuy: Marie, without funding, will the DRC still be opening ages?
(11/04 15:28:59) T.S: o.k
(11/04 15:29:41) Marie Sutherland: That has not been determined yet, TomahnaGuy, but it's doubtful.
(11/04 15:29:48) TomahnaGuy: Ok
(11/04 15:30:08) JWPlatt: Marie, thank you for bringing a bright spot to the Cavern in the midst of dark days with your honoring of explorer efforts in the reconstruction of the Caevrn.
(11/04 15:30:12) d'ni everything worries
(11/04 15:30:28) JWPlatt: And by the I mean today's stained glass.
(11/04 15:30:37) Marie Sutherland: You're welcome, JWPlatt.
(11/04 15:30:41) Sanguena wants to ask a question...
(11/04 15:30:41) Mirelldwyn: slime
(11/04 15:30:52) Do'Tsahvahn: What does the DRC know about the Bahro presence? Is there any activity is areas we don't have access to, such as the districts along the cavern walls?
(11/04 15:30:56) Marten: Any light in the cavern brings comfort.
(11/04 15:31:16) Niika: thank you for releasing Ahnonay. It's a beautiful age
(11/04 15:31:23) Zen6219: this is amazing! We have a swarm of bahro circling the Arch. No one really knows why. And, all these idiots are concerned about is the GZ stained glass progject! Geez
(11/04 15:31:33) DocOlanA: Marie, is it true the DRC is going to be setting up giant speakers near the ferry to play the 'flying monkey' music from Wizard of Oz? smile.gif
(11/04 15:31:34) d'ni everything nods her head
(11/04 15:31:44) DaveRamos: lol
(11/04 15:31:49) Thend says DOH!
(11/04 15:31:49) Illuvatar: There's a diver in the waer, and construction in the building behind us. are those people staying? or is that undetermined?
(11/04 15:31:52) Erik: Zen, you can't expect Marie to know everything about the Bahro, can you?
(11/04 15:31:55) No'ga thinks Zen was a alittle harsh
(11/04 15:31:57) Illuvatar: *water
(11/04 15:32:00) Marie Sutherland: You're welcome, Niika.
(11/04 15:32:20) Marie Sutherland sighs.
(11/04 15:32:21) Mirelldwyn: No, its was directed to the situation ...
(11/04 15:32:21) Barbarra: Are any other funding sources expressing interest?
(11/04 15:32:23) Marten: Interesting opinion, Zen. Sometimes when there's a crisis, the best thing you can do is to stay calm and focused and take things one at a time.
(11/04 15:32:35) Illuvatar: Wow
(11/04 15:32:37) DaveRamos: agreed marten
(11/04 15:32:38) Mirelldwyn: I gree with zen ...
(11/04 15:32:39) EthanEver says DOH!
(11/04 15:32:42) LucyCat: Miss Sutherland, has anyone spoken to Dr. Watson about the Bahro?
(11/04 15:32:43) T.S: left
(11/04 15:32:44) Renyaloth: grr
(11/04 15:32:45) Maurus: wow.
(11/04 15:32:47) Rocky: Awe
(11/04 15:32:48) Mirelldwyn: I don
(11/04 15:32:50) Maurus: poor marie.
(11/04 15:32:50) T.S says DOH!
(11/04 15:32:52) EthanEver starts to laugh
(11/04 15:32:54) Rocky: She link out
(11/04 15:32:54) Kelm: Shes gone
(11/04 15:32:59) EthanEver: Pufff!
(11/04 15:32:59) TomahnaGuy: sad.gif
(11/04 15:32:59) DocOlanA: To be honest, Zen, we're in a dark time. And I, for one, am glad that Marie's got a catchy tune to whistle, metaphorically speaking.
(11/04 15:33:00) Illuvatar: Poor marie sad.gif
(11/04 15:33:06) Leonor: sad.gif
(11/04 15:33:06) TomahnaGuy: We were crowding her

(11/04 21:40:10) J.D. Barnes: shorah b'shemtee
(11/04 21:40:24) Pryftan: Shorah, Mr. Barnes.
(11/04 21:40:42) Tyion: greeting JD
(11/04 21:41:04) Tyion: What brings you to Ae'gura?
(11/04 21:41:05) Altydwarber: shorah all
(11/04 21:41:09) J.D. Barnes: I was hoping to pass on some details I've founs over by the concert hall, for those you who are interested.
(11/04 21:41:13) Tyion: shorah Alty!
(11/04 21:41:29) Pryftan: What sort of details?
(11/04 21:41:53) J.D. Barnes: I just spke to Dr. Sutherland, so I wanted to pass on how that went.
(11/04 21:42:16) Pryftan: I thought you had. You were both in a Bevin and most were pretty empty, and she draws the crowds..
(11/04 21:42:52) J.D. Barnes: she does seem to understand the virtue of an uncrowded space.
(11/04 21:44:17) J'Ankenne: Howdy, folks--any new news?
(11/04 21:44:35) J.D. Barnes: Wellm I understand she announced that she and Mr. Laxman intend to remain in the Cavern for now, no?
(11/04 21:44:51) Pryftan: That she did. She didn't stay long, though.
(11/04 21:45:33) J'Ankenne: I'm glad to hear it.
(11/04 21:45:41) J.D. Barnes: She did say that Dr. Watson and Mr. Engberg are still around, but keeping to themselves.
(11/04 21:45:58) J.D. Barnes: she's not seen Mr. Sharper, and she did not mention Mr. White.
(11/04 21:46:51) Tyion: hey if anyone is interested sambase's Uruliveradio show is airing.
(11/04 21:46:58) Pryftan: Has she spoken with Dr. Watson about the recent state of affairs?
(11/04 21:47:28) J.D. Barnes: Anyway, I don't have any revelations to pass on. But as I had been charged by some explorers to attempt to make contact with the DRC, I felt I should report on that.
(11/04 21:47:46) J.D. Barnes: pryftan, she didn't mention that, unfortunately.
(11/04 21:48:09) J.D. Barnes: well, Eleri graciously arranged a meeting with Dr. Sutherland with me.
(11/04 21:48:37) J.D. Barnes: i passed on the fact that many explorers feel their skills are critical, and that some are worried that the DRC may be dissolving.
(11/04 21:49:28) Pryftan: Oh, I do hope you were able to mention that the GoW and others are willing to help restore Ages..
(11/04 21:49:59) J.D. Barnes: Oh yes, I made a strong point that the explorers, both in and outside of the emerging Guilds, are ready and able to step up to help in whatever ways they can.
(11/04 21:50:40) Pryftan: Thank you for that! It's a key point that often is swalled in the mess of a DRC Q&A.
(11/04 21:50:47) Pryftan: swallowed^
(11/04 21:51:21) J.D. Barnes: The main thrust of Dr. Sutherland's response is that she's in favor of it, but feels that the tools and infrastructure to do so do not yet exist. She seemed to feel that once they do, that the explorers will be able to have a more active role in how things work down here.
(11/04 21:51:53) Pryftan: But she seemed willing to help build such an infrastructure?
(11/04 21:52:22) J.D. Barnes: She is very concerned that anything she might say about it might be interpretted as a promise, and she feels she and the other DRC members are not in a position to make promises they aren't sure they can keep.
(11/04 21:53:07) Pryftan: Ah..
(11/04 21:53:18) J.D. Barnes: Slughorn, she didn't give any indication, though she felt it was too early to tell.
(11/04 21:53:33) J.D. Barnes: Dimitrios, I suggested that as well.
(11/04 21:54:14) J.D. Barnes: See the previous comment about being reluctant to make promises.
(11/04 21:54:42) J.D. Barnes: about the conert hall? No, I just thought it has been underused, so I decided to stand here.
(11/04 21:55:57) J.D. Barnes: i did ask that the DRC (or what becomes of them) try to make an effort to communicate more about these things, either themselves or through advisors like Reteltee.
(11/04 21:56:35) J.D. Barnes: wiz, she didn't have any current infromation. She felt that without funding that she and Mr. Laxman would just ne explorers like everyone else and may not be much use.
(11/04 21:56:46) J.D. Barnes: I disagree with that, myself.
(11/04 21:57:03) J.D. Barnes: i think they feel helpless.
(11/04 21:57:16) Pryftan: We'll need more such people.. if the DRC is going to be two people they need to trust more explorers like Reteltee
(11/04 21:57:35) J.D. Barnes: I mean, what do you think you can do about it? I doubt the DRC has any secret D'ni superweapons hiding behind the curtains or such.
(11/04 21:58:15) Pryftan: About the Bahro.
(11/04 21:58:26) J.D. Barnes: it seems that Dr. Watson and Mr. Henderson are the only ones with a handle on the Bahro. I hope they make an effort to give us more information.
(11/04 21:59:44) ChaosSong: They don't seem to be attacking each other, or us for that matter, just a holding pattern...
(11/04 21:59:49) J.D. Barnes: I also suggested that they pass on some work to the explorers over the next few months while they focus on funding. I suggested they take on people to transfer knowledge about D'ni in case they are unable to continue.
(11/04 22:00:04) J.D. Barnes: dr. Sutherland seemed to like they idea, but once again, made no promises.
(11/04 22:01:01) Soup_Fork: greetings and Shorah
(11/04 22:01:01) J.D. Barnes: I suggested work be passed off to the Guilds, or organizatrions like the Students of D'ni Knowledge.
(11/04 22:01:33) J.D. Barnes: Curty, unfortunately, she passed on no schedules to me.
(11/04 22:01:33) Pryftan: I'm glad you made so many good suggestions.. but without commitment there's not a lot we can go on
(11/04 22:01:34) Marten: SoDK! There's a group I've heard little from recently.
(11/04 22:01:38) J.D. Barnes: Pryftan, this is very true.
(11/04 22:02:33) J.D. Barnes: however, I'll repeat what I said last night. I think it's best if we continue as if we will get that support at some point. That is the only thing we can do if we hope to accomplish anything.
(11/04 22:03:12) J.D. Barnes: i suggested they prvide verification and support for independent research as well. Once again, it was a well-received idea, but no promises were made.
(11/04 22:04:35) J.D. Barnes: Dimitrios, hardly.
(11/04 22:04:42) J.D. Barnes: i am no messianic figure.
(11/04 22:04:47) Marten: Too many pronouns.
(11/04 22:04:57) Zen6219: This is more information than we've received in 3 days.
(11/04 22:05:41) Tyion: Is it me or are the bahro getting more intence?
(11/04 22:05:47) J.D. Barnes: Dr. Sutherland did say that she'd be willing to consider what she can do to utitlize explorers within her limitations and means.
(11/04 22:06:04) J.D. Barnes: I'll reiterate, no promises, however.
(11/04 22:06:09) Marten: Yes, Zen, because Mr. Barnes and Eleri treated Ms. Sutherland with some respect, they got more information. Shocking.
(11/04 22:07:15) J.D. Barnes: Anyway, I think that's all I have to pass on. Eleri, did I miss anything?
(11/04 22:07:52) J.D. Barnes: Ah, good.
(11/04 22:08:02) ChaosSong: Thanks for filling us in, JD.
(11/04 22:08:14) J.D. Barnes: Well, I wish I had more pass on...
